Teaching

The teaching activity of the Chair is based on the courses below.

Moreover, a seminar series and a conference are offered every year on specific topics to students as well as the general public. These research activities are evidenced in the dedicated page of the website.

The outcomes of the research, including the scientific publications, will be evidenced in the Open Knowledge Platform.

FUTMOFIN COURSES

European Monetary and Economic Law (EMEL)

Prof. Giulio Peroni, Prof. Filippo Croci

First Semester

European Monetary and Economic Law (EMEL) is the first pillar of the Jean Monnet Chair FUTMOFIN. It is an English-taught course taught by Prof. Giulio Peroni and Prof. Filippo Croci which is offered to students of UNIMI Law School. EMEL directly comes from the 2016-2019 Jean Monnet Module experience devoted to the issue of the Eurocrisis and the reform of economic governance in the Eurozone after the 2008 financial crisis and the 2011 sovereign debt crisis.

The activity of the Chair is complementary, in continuity line, but more innovative and highly upgraded, to that of the previous Module, as it will continue to deepen the study of European economic and monetary law, but with specific attention to innovative areas of EU reform such as those concerning Money and Finance in the signs of blockchain and sustainability.

In said context, specific topics will be deeply examined and discussed in class during lessons, seminars, and workshops, such as:

  • the reform of the Stability Growth Pact
  • the implementation of the Recovery Plan for Europe: Next Generation EU
  • the recourse to the principle of solidarity among Member States in the framework of the European economic governance
  • Central Bank Digital Currencies and the Digital Euro
  • Green Central Banking and the ECB’s Climate Agenda

The Chair will also enrich the scope of the EMEL course by bringing a more international-oriented perspective on EU law and policies, as digital transformation and the transition to sustainable development are inherently global phenomena. This will also outline the leading role Europe is playing in the world on these issues.

International and European Financial Law and Sustainable Development (IEFL&SD)

Prof. Giulio Peroni

Second Semester

International and European Financial Law and Sustainable Development (IEFL&SD) is the second pillar of the Chair. It is the English-taught course taught by Prof. Giulio Peroni, which is offered to students of the UNIMI Law School as well as to students of the LL.M. in “Law and Sustainable Development” and Ph.D. students of the Ph.D. in “Law, Ethics, Economics and for Sustainable Development”. It is a course on International and European Economic Law specifically dedicated to the financial sector and sustainable development.

In particular, the principles and rules underlying the International and European financial systems are studied as well as the institutions most involved in their governance and the ongoing international reform processes on sustainability issues. Particular attention will be given to International Sustainable Development Cooperation and to Sustainable Finance as the process of integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations into financial services. The teaching also explores the EU regulations and policies on Sustainable Finance.

International and European Economic Law (IEEL)

Prof. Giulio Peroni

Second Semester

International and European Economic Law (IEEL) is the third pillar of the Chair. It is taught by Prof. Giulio Peroni and offered to students of the UNIMI Law School. It focuses on international economic law and the comprehension of international economic phenomena and the processes of globalization. Also, fundamental principles of EU economic law are explored, as the EU is the leading example of regional economic and monetary integration and a major economic power within the international economic order.

During the course, general principles and rules informing both the European and international economic systems and policies are extensively studied from a legal point of view. On this background, a specific focus is provided by the Chair on the issues of sustainable development and blockchain transformation.
